Questionmark Appoints Assessment Expert Steve Lay to Lead Open Platform Initiative

LONDON – April 9, 2009 – Testing and assessment technologies and services supplier Questionmark today announced the appointment of Steve Lay, an expert on assessment technologies, to lead the company’s Open Platform initiative.

Questionmark already offers a number of “Connectors” to portals and enterprise business systems including Oracle and SAP, made possible by the company’s commitment to open standards that support interoperability between different systems. Steve will expand access to toolsets and example code, opening up Questionmark’s systems to provide useful environments for a wide range of communities in order to foster a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.

Before joining Questionmark, Steve worked at the University of Cambridge's Centre for Applied Research into Educational Technologies (CARET) in England. There, he managed the transition from a number of trial systems to the University's chosen online system to support research and learning based on the Sakai open source platform, CamTools. Prior to that he was part of a new technologies team at Cambridge Assessment, known in the United Kingdom as the OCR exam board and outside the UK as the University of Cambridge International Examinations board, or Cambridge ESOL, a leading provider of tests of English for speakers of other languages. Steve was chair of the Question and Test Interoperability specification project team (QTI) from 2003-2008.

Early in his career, Steve worked in the University of Cambridge Department of Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics on projects ranging from the development of a Digital Desk to the production of multimedia course materials and other teaching support software.
