Questionmark Perception Training:
Customizing the Participant Interface in Questionmark Perception Version 5

Two-day, hands-on training

This in-depth, hands-on course provides a look under the hood at the Perception version 5 participant-facing interface. This interface includes: login and assessment list screens as well as assessment delivery and feedback screens. The course is designed for users of Questionmark Perception responsible for ensuring that the participant interface:

  • Conforms to organizational style guidelines
  • Meets user requirements for interacting with and consuming assessment content

The course entails the demonstration of tools, techniques and best practices for customizing the interface templates. Attendees are provided with several opportunities to apply the tools, techniques, and best practices through hands-on exercises that are based on the needs of real-world Perception users. Special attention is given to the case of upgrading from v4 to v5.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

  • Identify the standard participant interface features and layouts available in v5
  • Explain how the participant interface has changed in v5
  • Describe how the QPLA run-time environment works to render a screen
  • Identify the default interface settings and styles, their source files, and locations
  • Perform various techniques for customizing the following on login, delivery, and feedback screens:
    • Style
    • Behavior
    • Text
  • Demonstrate how to use:
    • the “Debug” language for identifying the text elements on all screens
    • hooks for embedding additional HTML on certain screens

 

Prerequisites

This course assumes the student has working knowledge of the following:

  1. Questionmark Authoring Manager
  2. Cascading Style sheets (CSS) ; in-line style rules and syntax
  3. HTML
  4. Using XML editors or text editors for modifying XML documents
  5. Web developer tools like Firebug for Firefox or Developer Tools for IE 8


Instructional Strategies
Participants are challenged to perform various interface customization tasks. Exercise materials are provided. The exercises have been designed to reflect authentic assessment-related tasks and contexts.
